Last week, Valley Fiber partnered with MB Tech Week to host our first-ever Data Center Tour – “Inside the Bunker.”
Led by our founder Hank Wall, the tour gave technology professionals and curious enthusiasts a rare behind-the-scenes look at the True North Data Center Exchange, a Tier 3–designed facility built to deliver secure, reliable infrastructure for organizations across Manitoba and beyond.

How the Vision of the Data Center Began
But the story of the data center didn’t start with servers and fiber.
It started with a local entrepreneur who believed rural communities deserved access to world-class technology infrastructure and local support.
Hank shared how the vision for the data center came from a simple belief: communities shouldn’t have to rely on infrastructure thousands of miles away to run their businesses. Organizations across Manitoba needed a place where their data could be stored, managed, and protected locally, supported by teams who understand the region and the businesses operating within it.
That vision ultimately led to the development of what many now call the “Data Center of the North.”
Infrastructure Designed for Reliability and Local Support

Today, the True North Data Center Exchange delivers enterprise-grade infrastructure designed for reliability and performance, including:
- Tier 3 design with all active N=N components
- Internet & transport speeds exceeding 100+ Gbps
- 24/7/365 surveillance with on-site support staff
- Redundant power and cooling systems
- Carrier neutral connectivity
- Geo-diverse routing across Canadian and US networks
- A strategic location outside the Manitoba floodway

Why Local Data Infrastructure Matters
As organizations increasingly move their systems and applications to the cloud, where data lives matters more than ever.
Local infrastructure offers key advantages including improved performance, stronger data sovereignty, greater security, and access to local technical expertise.
The facility supports a range of services designed to help organizations scale securely, including:
- Colocation services
- Cloud hosting solutions
